Sisters of the loom

A women’s fiber arts retreat.

April 17th-21st 2025

Nevada City, California

Sisters of the Loom is a women's immersive retreat opportunity to learn the ancient crafts of spinning, botanical dying, and weaving; in connection to the Earth, with reverence for the plants and animals, and for all those who came before who have made this very moment possible.

Within a prayerful, supportive container, in community as we have for so many years, we will create.  With the guidance of the elements, our ancestors, your own inner compass and unique inspirations, and instruction from Annyea, you will birth a one of a kind handwoven tapestry, made from the Earth up, with your very own hands. You will walk away from this weekend feeling inspired, fulfilled, and connected, with a deep appreciation for textile arts and it's interconnectedness to the natural world, new friendships, and all of the basic skills and tools you need to continue crafting at home.

The time has come, dear sister

We all have weavers in our bloodlines. The wisdom of these ways live within each of us, waiting to be reborn.

Do you hear the song of the loom, calling you home?

  • tend

Get a glimpse of real life animal husbandry and connect with the woolen ones.

  • spin

Learn how to hand spin yarn using drop spindles and spinning wheels, with natural animal fibers.

  • dye

Birth an earthen rainbow of plant dyed magic on hand spun yarn.

  • weave

Weave it all together on a frame loom! Learn the basics of hand weaving.

Where you will stay

We will gather on our homestead which is located within the unceded ancestral homelands of the Nisenan, nestled in the Northern Sierra Nevada Foothills. We live in Nevada City, California, where we tend 20 acres overlooking the western Sierra Nevadas and the Yuba river canyon, growing food and fiber for our family and community. You will get to connect with the land and the very animals which will provide some of the fiber we will use in our workshop.

Our classroom is a gorgeous custom 30 foot yurt; complete with a wood stove, a beautiful kitchen, as well as an indoor bathroom and hot shower for everyone to use. The catering kitchen and dining area is in a separate near by space.  And we have an outdoor spa area which includes a sauna, hot tub, cold plunge and hot shower.

There are 3 options for dream time spaces, including an indoor room, a belle tent, or you may bring your own tent. Locals are welcome to commute.

creation as ceremony

fiber arts and so much more. ceremony, self care, prayer, community,  earthen connection…

-Yoga. We will be sitting for many hours each day crafting away, so to support our bodies we will have a local yoga instructor coming to visit us in the mornings and guide us in a gentle practice! Don't worry, no experience needed.

-Tea. One morning, we will rise to the singing of the kettle, and sit together in ceremony. Tea reminds us just how beautiful the mundane is. Water, air, fire, earth; all coming together in perfect harmony in every moment, within our bowls, and upon our looms.

-Self Care. Our evenings will be blessed with nourishing self care time in our beautiful outdoor spa area, which includes a cedar sauna, a hot tub and cold plunge, and hot shower, overlooking the mountains.

-Communal altar. I believe that weaving can be a spiritual practice. I will be encouraging you to infuse your weaving with loving intention! To help ground our personal and collective prayers, we will build and tend to a communal altar space in the yurt.

-Sacred Fire. We will be sitting beside the wood stove through our gathering, and it will be an integral space holder for us. We will light our fire with reverence, and offer our prayers to it through the weekend.

-Animal Time. You will get to meet and spend time with my dear animals friends who's fiber we will be making magic with.

-Song and Story. Connect to the spirit of this work through melodies and words that carry it’s medicine.

-...and whatever other goodness naturally unfurls!!

 FAQs

  • This workshop is geared towards beginners. We will be starting with the most basic concepts and techniques for each craft and working our way from there. So if you're a beginner, you're in the perfect place! Folks with experience are welcome too. Don't hesitate to reach out if you're curious if this is a good fit for you!

  • As you can see in the schedule, this is a very full weekend and in order to pack everything in, we need to stay focused. This workshop is not designed to support the presence of small children. This is an opportunity for mamas who may want to attend to take time to drop deep into a create flow!

As the host of this gathering, my daughter will be on the land at times but with full time caretakers.

And, as a mama of a toddler, I understand how hard it can be to squeeze in time for this kind of creativity, and I know that it's not always possible to slip away for a retreat. I am beginning to host workshops for mamas with littles so please reach out of that’s you!

  • To keep things intimate and spacious, I am able to host around 10 participants. I trust that the perfect group will come together! In the past, these spots have filled quickly so please fill out an application asap if you are interested!

  • If you are flying in, we will absolutely help get you to the homestead. The closest airport is about 1.5 hours away and it might look like you taking a bus to get just a little closer. All can be discussed on a case by case basis.

  • Simply because I love sitting in a circle, crafting with women. Women’s only spaces are ancient and sacred, needed and worthy of being. This is the vision that I have for this gathering and this is what I want to hold space for here at this time.

  • Yes I have a few partial work trade opportunities. Please reach out to me if you are interested.

    -Caterer support person

    -Fire tender

    -Photographer

    -Set up and break down

  • Yes I am open to discussing payment plans! Let’s chat and find a way to make this work for you. : )
